Terms of Service

1. Who these terms are with

These terms govern your use of geofilament.mochi.is and anything you buy through it. The service is operated by GeoFilament, established in Iceland (“we”, “us”). By using the studio or buying a model you agree to them. If you do not, please do not use the service.

2. What you are buying

GeoFilament generates a 3D-printable model of an area you choose, and sells it as a download: a multi-colour 3MF, an STL and an OBJ, in millimetres, at 1:5,000, together with a print and assembly guide. You are buying files. We do not print, manufacture or ship anything, and you need your own printer or a print bureau to end up with an object.

3. Early access

Payment is live and is taken by Stripe on their own page, with Stripe acting as the merchant of record for the sale — Stripe collects the payment and any VAT or sales tax, and handles payment disputes and payment-level support; the sections below on price, refunds and withdrawal apply in full. Your card details are given to Stripe and never to us, and your downloads unlock when Stripe confirms the payment — which is also what the address you are given re-opens them with later.

Buying is done signed in: the studio asks for your account before the checkout opens, and the purchase is saved to it as well as to the address on your receipt. Nothing else needs an account — re-opening and downloading a model you already bought work from that address alone.

Early access also means the studio changes: features, exports and defaults may be added, altered or removed as the pipeline improves.

4. Price and payment

A model is priced by its finished size — the plate multiplied by the grid — and not by the number of plates it prints on: up to 25 cm is €3, up to 50 cm is €5 and over 50 cm is €8. The price shown at checkout, in the currency shown there, is the price — it includes any VAT or sales tax, which Stripe calculates, collects and remits as the merchant of record. We may change prices, but never for a purchase already made.

5. Your licence

When you buy a model you get a personal, worldwide, non-exclusive, perpetual licence to:

• print it as many times as you like, on your own printer or through a print bureau;
• keep and re-download the files, and print copies as gifts;
• re-frame it — move the frame, or turn the plate — anywhere inside the area your purchase covers, and download the new plates at no extra charge. That area is 1.6× the model you bought on each side, so a 25 × 25 cm model may be reframed anywhere within 40 × 40 cm and a 30 × 40 cm one within 48 × 64 cm. A frame outside it, or a print larger than the one you bought on either side, is a new model;
• modify the files for your own printing — rescale, re-slice, cut, remix.

You may not:

• sell, sub-license, share or publish the files, or upload them to a model-sharing site;
• sell prints made from them, or use them in a product or service you charge for;
• pass the licence on to someone else.

Commercial use is available — a shop, a client project, a print run — and it is a separate licence rather than a refusal. Write to info@mochi.is.

6. What stays ours

The studio, the generation pipeline, the site and the GeoFilament name remain ours. Buying a model licenses the model, not the software that made it.

7. Map data and attribution

Models are built from OpenStreetMap data, which is © OpenStreetMap contributors and licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL), and from open elevation data. A model is a produced work of that data, and the ODbL’s attribution condition travels with it: if you publish or display a print, a render or a photograph of a model — anywhere public — credit “© OpenStreetMap contributors”. The credit is already written into every file we export and into the print guide; this clause is about what you post rather than what you download. We cannot waive that condition, because it is not ours to waive.

8. Accuracy — what a model is and is not

A model is a generated depiction of open map data at a printable scale, not a survey. Building heights are frequently absent from the map and are estimated from building type, footprint and storey counts; features are simplified to what a 0.4 mm nozzle can render; landmarks are drawn as recognisable proxies rather than as measured reconstructions; terrain comes from a surface model and may include things standing on the ground rather than the ground itself. Coverage varies with how well an area has been mapped.

Models are supplied for hobby, decorative and educational use. They must not be relied on for navigation, construction, surveying, planning, safety or any other purpose where accuracy matters.

9. Printability

We take printability seriously — meshes are closed, overhangs are constrained, spans are arched and thin sections are widened, all of it checked automatically. What we cannot do is test your printer, your filament or your slicer profile, so we do not warrant that any given plate will print successfully on any given machine. If a file has a defect, tell us and we will fix it or refund it.

10. Using the service fairly

The studio relies on volunteer-run and donation-funded map services. Please use it as a person using a website: do not script it, scrape it, run automated bulk builds through it, or attempt to circumvent checkout. Do not use the service unlawfully or to infringe anyone’s rights. We may suspend access that is damaging the service or the map services it depends on.

11. Availability

The service is provided as it is, without an uptime guarantee. Building a model depends on third-party map and elevation services that can be slow, rate-limited or down, and areas the map covers poorly will produce a poor model. We may change or discontinue parts of the service; where that would stop you re-downloading something you have already bought, we will give you reasonable notice.

12. Refunds and the right to withdraw

A model is digital content delivered immediately, and by starting the download you ask for immediate delivery and acknowledge that you lose the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal for that purchase. That does not affect your rights when something is wrong — if a model is broken, incomplete or not what the studio said it would be, write to us and we will fix it or refund it.

13. Liability

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or any statutory rights you have as a consumer. Subject to that, our total liability arising out of the service or a purchase is limited to what you paid for the model concerned, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including printing time, filament, machine wear or a failed print.

14. Privacy

What we collect, why, and who your browser talks to while a model is built is set out in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms — the date at the top of the page says when we last did. The terms that apply to a purchase are the ones in force when you made it, and a change never alters the licence you already hold for a model you have already bought.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of Iceland, and disputes fall to the courts of Iceland. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the EEA, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your own country, or of the right to bring proceedings there.
