Gallery Rome
3D-printable model of Rome
Municipio I, the Colosseum — 800 m of ground on a 160 mm plate, at 1:5,000. Buildings, streets, water, woodland and the real terrain under all of it, from OpenStreetMap and open elevation data.

What stands on this plate
Most of a model is extruded from an outline the map already has, which is why a church tagged with the height of its own spire prints as a slab that tall. These are drawn by hand instead, from published dimensions, so they come off the plate at their real height:
- Colosseum48.5 m
- Arch of Constantine21 m
How Rome compares
Every city in the gallery is drawn on the same 160 mm plate holding the same 800 m of ground, so the numbers above are worth comparing. Against the rest of the gallery, this frame is:
- 650 buildings — more open than 52% of the other 246.
- 38 m of fall across the frame — hillier than 65% of the other 246.
The link above opens the studio already framed on Municipio I, the Colosseum. Nothing is fixed: move the map, change the plate size, turn the frame to the view you know, switch the water or the woodland off. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the ODbL.
